Gondwana Choirs is thrilled to announce Vice Regal Patronage of Sydney Children’s Choir by His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) Governor of New South Wales, and Mrs Linda Hurley.
The Office of Governor of New South Wales is the oldest public office in Australia, dating from 1786 when Captain Arthur Phillip was issued a Commission appointing him Governor of the then colony of New South Wales. More than two and a quarter centuries later, the Governor has an important constitutional and ceremonial role in the state as well as being closely involved in the activities of community organisations and events.
Prior to his appointment as Governor, His Excellency served for 42 years in the Australian Army, concluding his service as the Chief of the Defence Force. His Excellency was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2010 for eminent service to the Australian Defence Force, and a Distinguished Service Cross for his leadership during Operation SOLACE in Somalia in 1993.
Mrs Linda Hurley was born and raised in Sydney. She was educated at Kingsgrove High School and after attending Riverina College became a primary school teacher. Mrs Hurley has an interest in the Arts, especially music. She is passionate about singing and has been working for the Australian National University School of Music’s Music Engagement Programme in schools that has the aim of helping Australia become a singing nation.
