The Sydney Children’s Choir have just wrapped up a visit to Tasmania as part of Hobart’s Festival of Voices.
Among the highlights was a joint performance with the Young Voices of Melbourne guided by dynamic conductor, musician and educator, Anthony Trecek-King. [Video link.] President and Artistic Director of the award winning Boston Children’s Chorus, Trecek-King is internationally recognised and works with choirs all around the world. Sydney Children’s Choir Artistic Director, Lyn Williams OAM, was thrilled with the collaboration saying that the choirs created a “mighty sound together”.
As well as joy-filled concerts, a tour to kunanyi/Mount Wellington and singing at Bonfire Night, the trip had its poignant moments. During the choir’s visit to Port Arthur they performed in the old Church. Said Lyn, “It was especially moving to be able to sing the Port Arthur Memorial song [from Dan Walker’s Moments that Shaped Australia] for members of the community and to visit and reflect at the memorial. There were many tears and thoughtful moments.”
Performances included Hobart Town Hall, Federation Concert Hall and the spectacular Nolan Gallery of MONA.
