New Board Directors

Dr Tessa Boyd-Caine was appointed to the Gondwana Choirs Board in late 2015. Tessa was a founding member of the Sydney Children’s Choir in 1989.
A criminologist by training, Tessa has previously worked in the areas of human rights, mental health law and criminal justice, both domestically and internationally. She recently was appointed the CEO of the new National Centre for Health Justice Partnerships.
Tessa says:
Joining the Gondwana Board combines two of my passions: the Choir itself and good governance. As a founding member of the Sydney Children’s Choir (many years ago) I gained a home for my musical interests, a social world and a whole new approach to learning that was disciplined, of very high standards and deeply rewarding. I continue to value everything I gained from the Choir, years after I left it.
Now, my work in the non-profit sector and my evolving interest in good governance have provided an avenue to contribute back to the Choir. I’m particularly keen to support engagement with alumnae, as we see growing generations of ex-choristers making terrific contributions to the arts, government, business and community; and increasing numbers of alumnae sending their own kids into the Choir.
Caroline Sharpen joined the board in March this year and is the Principal of Sharpen Creative Industries Consulting. As a classically-trained musician, Caroline laid the foundations of creative thinking, listening, identifying patterns and connecting disparate or in-congruent ideas. With degrees in music, musicology and an MBA, Caroline understands the dual drivers of creative industries businesses and the challenges involved in balancing creative integrity with fiscal imperatives. Her approach lies in pursuit of clear strategy and communication, leadership and an uncompromising approach to organisational culture and retaining talented people.
With more than 17 years senior executive experience in cultural organisations in Australia and the USA, Caroline has successfully overseen the development of corporate and business unit strategy which places creative integrity at the heart of revenue growth. She has worked with governments, corporate partners and many of Australia’s most generous philanthropists, aligning the needs of organisations with the goals, values and beliefs of their supporters.

I am delighted to join the board of Gondwana Choirs. There is nothing more inspiring than seeing young people come together to learn music and perform it for large audiences. Gondwana provides a welcoming, joyful and inspirational place for young people from all walks of life to share their talents and find like-minded friends. I look forward to helping support the vision of Lyn Williams OAM as a Director and experienced arts fundraising specialist.
