    Background: B.Ed (Sec Music) 1994, Grad Dip (Composition, 2000), MMus and PhD in Composition (2001 and 2007) through University of Melbourne studying with Brenton Broadstock.. Experienced composer of voice and choral repertoire setting quirky text with 3 major song-cycles and many choral works. Lecturer in Composition at Melbourne Conservatorium, University of Melbourne.

    Gondwana Choirs: Long time admirer and first time participant (although Gondwana have performed Abbott’s works in previous years).

    Other experience: Performances throughout Australia and overseas in chamber and festival settings. Worked extensively with The Song Company, Halcyon and MLC School, Sydney. Commissions and performances also with Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania and Sydney Symphony orchestras. Composer-in-Residence at Banff Centre for the Arts, Border Music Camp, University of Tasmania many schools. Regular chamber commissions with leading Australian ensembles. Many awards including Albert H Maggs Award 2011 and APRA ART Music Finalist in 2013 (Vocal/Choral category).
