It was definitely winter in Sydney last Sunday! On a cold, clear day over 500 Choristers from Sydney Children’s Choir took part in two performances at the Verbrugghen Hall at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Joining them at the 3pm concert were choristers from our three Sydney-based Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir hubs – Campbelltown, Mt Druitt, and our newest group from Inner Sydney.
The Winter Concerts are where our younger choristers have their first performances for family and friends in the year. The audiences also can clearly see and hear how these young voices transform throughout the course of the program to the amazing musicianship exhibited in the Junior and Senior Performing Choirs.
Joining the Senior Choir were two special guest conductors, Danny May (11am) and John Chan (3pm) who had made the winning bids at the 2015 Walsh Bay Arts Table to conduct a choir. After a private conducting lesson with Lyn and a rehearsal with the choir, both Danny and John made their SCC Conducting debuts to great aplomb. Lyn was extremely impressed with the seriousness of preparation that both conductors exhibited!
The success of this is bound to make this an annual event. Anyone interested in conducting the Senior Choir at future concerts can contact Francis Greep, but be warned that bidding will be fierce!
A sincere thank you to all of our parent volunteer supervisors. It would be impossible for our small team of staff members to put on SCC concerts without you and your generosity in donating your time is truly appreciated.
