SCC 2016 Composer in Residence Alice Chance

COMPOSER IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM
Each year, Sydney Children’s Choir partners with one of the city’s key cultural institutions to ensure that they are accessible to our choristers through our Composer In Residence program. These collaborations are designed to inspire our choristers through the creation of new composition and by ensuring that these cultural and historical institutions are accessible to our choristers, the composers and performers of the future.

In 2016, our Composer in Residence will be Australian composer, Alice Chance. Alice is a talented young composer with a proven strength in writing for vocal ensembles. Further to her composition studies, she has benefited from participating in the Gondwana Choirs for much of her musical education. Alice has received commissions from a number of arts organisations in recent years, and in 2012 was highlighted as an emerging composer for Gondwana Choirs. Through the Composer in Residence program, Alice will be commissioned to write a suite of works about the Barangaroo site for a range of our Sydney Children’s Choir ensembles, ranging from our Junior training to Senior performing choirs. She will research the history and stories of Barangaroo, and facilitate workshops with our choristers, engaging them in the composition process.
