On 13 May, the Australia Council announced the results of the multiyear funding for small to medium arts companies, which impacted deeply across the sector as the legacy of the Coalition Government’s 2015 budget cuts to the Australia Council.
These cuts directly affect Gondwana Choirs, as we were recently notified that after over 20 years of multiyear funding from the Australia Council, we will not receive this support from 2017. Furthermore, there is a notable absence of support for choral music and youth arts programs across the art forms.
Gondwana Choirs, along with many other small to medium companies, are a vital part of the live performance industry in Australia. We are innovators, we present world class performances, we develop new and emerging talent, we provide jobs and career paths for talented Australians on and off the stage.
